Fort Worth Bike Sharing is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in charge of operations for the city’s forthcoming bike share system. Bike sharing is a new mode of transportation based on shared use of public bicycles and it has been successfully implemented in San Antonio, Denver and Washington D.C., among other cities.

The concept began in the planning department at the Fort Worth Transportation Department, which received a grant from the Federal Transit Administration to help cover capital costs. Fort Worth Bike Sharing plans to launch the system in mid-2013 with 300 specially-designed bikes available for check-out from 30 bike share stations set up across Downtown, the Cultural District, Near Southside and on TCU’s campus.

Mission: To enhance our community by providing an affordable, efficient, environmentally-friendly bike share program that complements our existing public transportation system and provides both residents and visitors a healthy, convenient way to move around our city.

This is Becky Delaune and I work in development at Tarrant Area Food Bank. Mayor Betsy Price has agreed to be the honorary chair of a bike ride we are planning for Saturday, November 23. The idea is that we will market the ride across the the county in both public and private schools to kids. THe campaign will create awareness about childhood hunger and encourage our young people to see themselves as changemakers – people with power to make things better for people who don’t have resources they need.

I’ve been thinking that in lots of schools, kids won’t have bikes and after reading about your organization in the paper today, I thought it might be mutually beneficial for us to discuss some joint marketing options. Please contact me and hopefully, we can begin a conversation.
